  1. Common spinal abnormality in NF 1 patients is enlargement of the neural foramina seen in 60%, this is generally due to the presence of a neurofibroma but may also be caused by dural ectasia or an arachnoid cyst
  2. Asymptomatic intradural extramedullary masses (typically neurofibromas) are present in nearly 20% of NF 1 patients; dumbell lesions are present in around 15%
