Normal synchondroses may be mistaken for fractures- eg dentocentral syndchondrosis of the atlas mistaken for an odontoid fracture.
Actual fractures may occur through synchondroses (1, 2).
Treatment for fractures through synchondroses: tendency ofr synchondroses to fuse suggests emergency reduction follwed by external immobilization be attempted. Internal immobilization for persistent instability. (2)
