Toxoplasma meningitis drugs

Toxoplasma is an intracellular protozoal parasite that will cause subclinical infections in adults, and severe infections in immunocompromized states ( AIDS, malignacies). Standard treatment: sulfonamides and sulfones; sulfones and sulfonamindes synergize with inhibitors of dihydroflate reductase (important because sporzoans such as toxoplasma must synthesize their own folate in order to survive)
- leucovorin (adjuvant)
- instead of sulfadiazine: dapsone, trimetrexate, clindamycin, spiramycin - can be tried
- instead of pyrimethamine: amphotericin B, fluconazole can be tried.
